storm damage prevention

Commercial roofing in the Florida area is subject to the effects storm damage.  Wind and rain can cause minor damage on your roofing system, leading to greater problems if not treated promptly. Since storms are a commonplace threat in the Miami area, it is important to take the proper precautions to ensure that your commercial or industrial buildings stay safe from harmful leaks and wind damage that can ruin your building.

Roof inspection

All business and commercial roofing should be inspected at least twice a year. The owner, building engineer, maintenance crew – or anyone with specific knowledge of the roofing system – should perform a thorough sweep of the roof.  Always follow all safety precautions when conducting an inspection.

The roofing materials must be checked carefully for broken or cracked areas, edges that are peeling, or flashing that requires repair. All drainage systems should be free of debris to promote proper draining of any excess moisture. Blocked drain pipes can and will lead to ponding on the roof and undue stress. In severe cases, this can result in a collapse.

Cut back any trees with branches overhanging the roof. This will prevent the danger of a tree fall during a windstorm as well as an elimination of one of the main causes of roof debris. Trees and branches that come down in heavy windstorms can ruin a roof and require expensive repairs.

Roof repairs

Commercial roofing should be repaired as soon as cracks or fissures are found.

Waterproofing is an excellent way to protect your roof throughout the year. Several products are available to seal your commercial roofing against the effects of torrential rain and the intense sunlight that can cause cracking. This includes buildings with roof-top parking. The waterproofing is non-slip and resistant to breaking and cracking.
